*TOPIC: IN CHRiSt, NO ONE PERISHES*
*"For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life"* (John 3:16).
The above text conveys a fact that many believers ignorantly argue, debate or disagree about. The fact remains that what every believer enjoys today is eternal salvation - eternal security. The phrase “should not perish but have everlasting life” expresses the fact of the eternal nature of our salvation. Believers are exempted from judgement and punishment for sin. The next verse that follows our theme text says, *"For God sent not his son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved".* (John 3:17). Jesus came to save us and everyone that believes in Him is eternally saved. Salvation is available because Jesus made Himself the price, sacrifice for it. Thus, it is a gift, predicated on the finished work of CHRiSt. Unfortunately, some preachers keep de - emphasizing the finished work of CHRiSt. 1 Corinth 15:22 says, *"For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive".* This implies that, in the first Adam all were born death; but in CHRiSt Jesus, we're made alive. *"And you hath he quickened, who we're dead in trespasses and sins"* (Eph. 2:1). We were dead in trespasses;the unbelieving man is a sinner by nature. In CHRiSt God unveiled His salvation plan for mankind by becoming man (Jesus) to die in order to deliver man from perishing(2 Corin. 5:19). And Eph. 1:4-5 says that we were chosen in CHRiSt before the foundation of the world, having been predestinated unto the adoption of children by Jesus CHRiSt. Revelation 13:8 that says Jesus was slain from the foundation of the world reveals that God's salvation plan existed before the world began.
The death of Jesus was not an afterthought but the eternal intent of God for the redemption of mankind. Man must escape judgment through Jesus CHRiSt. Our theme text is indeed a sovereign declaration by God, letting us know that salvation is eternal. It's only when a man rejects God's free offer of eternal salvation through Jesus that he perishes. John 3:18 *"He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God"*. Jesus empathically said, *"My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand. My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father's hand. I and my Father are one"* (John 10:27-30). Simply reading this should impart to you confidence and assurance in your salvation in CHRiSt, because if you don’t feel assured of your salvation in CHRiSt, it will certainly affect how you live as a Christian. Now, the word “never" in the above text was translated from the Greek word "ou me", it's a a "double negative" that strongly emphasizes the meaning of “never," which is "certainly not", "not at all', "by no means". It emphatically means "not even a possibility". Note that in Greek, a "double negative" is extra-emphatic that expresses very forceful negation.
The word "pluck" is the Greek "harpazΓ³"; it means to seize, catch up, snatch away. In other words, once you're saved, you'll never, by no means, ever perish! When people cast doubt on believer’s eternal nature of salvation; when they make light of the forgiveness and redemption Jesus achieved for us, it shows they are products of bad pastoring. They do not accurately understand or value the finished work of CHRiSt. Casting aspersions on the eternal nature of salvation cannot undo it's reality. Heb. 7:25 *"Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them"*. When we have the assurance of salvation, contrary to the saying that this gives people a license to sin with no regard for God, it actually gives us confidence and strength to live better for the Lord. Believers who are conscious of their security in the Father’s love are transformed by the renewing of their minds with the power of God’s grace. Because you are born again, you are forever joined to the Father and beyond Spiritual preservation, He also preserves physically. *"....Who delivered us from so great a death, and doth deliver: in whom we trust that he will yet deliver us"* (2 Corinth. 1:9-10). How then can we perish? It's impossible!
