SPRINGBOARD DAILY DEVOTIONAL

February 18.
“The earnest (heartfelt, continued) prayer of a righteous man makes tremendous power available (dynamic in its working)”
(James 5:16 Amp)
The happenings in our environments and the world over calls for our importunity in prayer. Out of ignorance a lot of people are blaming God for certain occurrences in their lives. But if things must change in the direction of God’s original plans and purposes, then we must keep praying.
God knows that there’s no situation a child of His cannot change because the divine power necessary to effect such change is already resident in you; it was deposited in you the moment you became born again. God doesn’t expect you to cry out for help or start complaining but He expects you to enforce your victory in the place of prayer.
I Kings 17 tells us of Elijah’s  confrontation with Ahab the king where he said, “… As the Lord God of Israel liveth, before whom I stand, there shall not be dew nor rain these years, but according to my word” (I kings 17:1). But to appreciate the import of what Elijah actually did, you must study this particular account contextually.
Aside speaking the word in faith, Elijah went beyond that even though 1 Kings 17:1 doesn’t tell us that. Most people have the impression that Elijah just proclaimed the word and there was drought in the land. No! Apostle James tells us exactly what transpired behind the scene. James 5:17 says, “Elias was a man subject to like passions as we are, and he prayed earnestly that it might not rain: and it rained not on the earth by the space of three years and six months”.
To enforce his expectation, Elijah prayed an earnest, heartfelt, continued prayer that made tremendous power available to effect the change he desired. The word “continued” as captured in our theme verse shows that we’re to continue in prayer if we desire to enforce the realities of our redemption in our lives.
It is our responsibility to effect the change we desire and that is done in the place of prayer. So always stir yourself and respond to the call and urgency of prayer.
