SPRINGBOARD DAILY DEVOTIONAL

GOOD MORNING

SPRINGBOARD DAILY DEVOTIONAL
THURSDAY 24TH JUNE, 2021
TOPIC: AVOID SPIRITUAL SLOTHFULNESS I

*Not slothful in business; fervent in spirit; serving the Lord*
(Romans 12:11)

It’s unfortunate that,  some believers are becoming cold-hearted( less concerned) in the things of the Kingdom. Their passion have become wane because, something else has taken the center stage in their scale of preference. The fervor that got them praying always is gone, for whatever reason they alone can tell; evangelism and service in general has become things of the Past. In fact their inactivity in the things of the kingdom, in a way is disengaging others from involving themselves in the work of the Kingdom.
We also have believers who are heroes and models of Christianity. They stay fervent for the Lord; they are never found being slothful in the things of the Kingdom. They are those who lay aside in order to stay fervent in the service of the Kingdom. They put aside ambition, pleasures and privileges to remain spiritually fervent. They follow Christ, they model Him; they make us see today, why and how Jesus Christ came. And the church should be found building and raising men like this.
The Lord Jesus came to show us an example; He was fervently doing what He was called to do, notwithstanding the circumstances that confronted Him. At one point, He was hungry, but service came calling and trust the master, He went for the higher course. When His disciples came, they asked Him if He had eaten and He answered them thus:  *My food (my nourishment) is to do the will(pleasure) of Him who sent me and to accomplish and completely finish His work*(John 4:31 paraphrazed). In essence, Jesus was saying I am satisfied when others are blessed. This is the spirit of Christianity. The verses that follow our theme text says, *Rejoicing in hope; patient in tribulation; continuing instant in Prayer; Distributing to the necessity of the saints; given to hospitality*(Romans 12:12-13). It means while in service of the Kingdom, persecution may arise, but even at that, we are not hopeless; we rejoice in hope, making prayer an integral part of what we are doing. We distribute to the necessity of the saints as this is one of the ways to express our love for God.
It is wrong to allow slothfulness make you neglect your spiritual obligation as a believer. The word *fervent* in our theme text is translated from the Greek word  *Zeo*; it implies *to boil or glow with heat.* It’s used for passionate attitude like the experience of the 120 united in prayer on the day of Pentecost (Acts 2:1-4) their act of fervency brought about the promised spirit and out of it came the salvation of three thousand souls. Typical of the early church was their attitude of fervency of spirit, which caused tremendous spreading of the gospel in their time. You ought not to be slothful about the things of the kingdom; your passion and zeal must be such that encourage others.
