TOPIC: THE NEW CREATION IN THE EYES OF THE FATHER 1
“ *Then said he, Lo, I come to do thy will, O God. He taketh away the first, that he may establish the second* ” (Hebrews 10:9)
After salvation, it is the place of the new creation to seek to know who he is and what God has said about him. The believer is supposed to submit himself to be taught with the intention to know. This will imply that he should see, look intently and make healthy observations only in Christ because there lies his completeness and wholeness. “ *For in him dwelleth all the fullness of the Godhead bodily. And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power”* (Colossians 2:9-10).
The psalmist said, *“I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvelous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well”* (Psalm 139:14). The phrase “ *for I am fearfully and wonderfully made”* refers to how the new creation came into existence (through Jesus’ death, burial and resurrection). Today, the new creation is the pride of the Father. Jesus Himself describing the state and value of the new creation in the eyes of the Father said, “ *And the glory which thou gavest me I have given them, that they may be one, even as we are one”* (John 17:22).
Our theme text says that God took away the old in order to establish the new. The old demanded from man while the new supplies; the new isn’t just a replacement of the old but a fulfillment of it and it is in the new testament that the new creation is clearly seen. Before the new covenant, Jesus was the ‘ *only begotten* ’ (Greek: *monogenes)* meaning the only of His kind or class; unique in kind. But Jesus became the ‘ *first begotten* ’ (Greek: *prototokos)* implying *a sample or prototype* , at resurrection (Hebrews 1:6; Revelation 1:5).
Today, the new creation looks like the resurrected Christ; we became sons of the most high God with rights and privileges at salvation, He has brought many sons to glory (Hebrews 2:10) and presently, God deals with us as sons (Hebrews 12:7). And in the new covenant, God announced that our sins, He will remember no more (Hebrews 8:10-13). Not that the new creation will not sin, but there will be no record of sin – that’s the way God treats the new creation because of the new covenant. God efficiently punished Jesus for the sins of mankind, He was made sin that we might be made the righteousness of God in Christ (2 Corinthians 5:21). It will amount to double entry if records of sin are kept against the new creation.
Hebrews 2:11 says, “ *For both he that sanctifieth and they who are sanctified are all of one: for which cause he is not ashamed to call them brethren”.* Like Jesus Christ who was begotten of the Father at resurrection, the new creation also was begotten at resurrection because before Jesus’ resurrection no one was born again. The new creation is created out of the nature and heart of the Father, hence He calls us holy and righteous. The Father sees the believer in Christ.
