Wednesday 23.
“Do your best to improve your faith. You can do this by adding goodness, understanding, self control, devotion to God”
(2 Peter 1:5-6 CEV)

In Romans 12:1-2, Apostle Paul speaking said, “I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye, present your bodies a living sacrifice holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect will of God”.By implication, it means that God recommends that our bodies should become channels for expressing the power of God; our bodies should  act as God’s display unit for His glory.
But you see, our bodies lack the capacity to lead itself hence God designed it to be led and not to lead. The potential in a man’s spirit is mismanage when he allows his body to dictate what he should do at any time. The glory that should have been revealed will be hidden.
The Greek word Peter used in our theme  verse which was translated “self control” means “to hold yourself in.” It means that as a child of God I should be ready to push myself hard and deny myself of certain pleasures so as to stay focused. You cannot do anything you desire; you cannot ignore the place of self control and expect to be productively balanced.
Therefore, I must allow my spirit to do the leading; I must allow my spirit to gain ascendency over my body if I desire to go far in my Christian walk. And having your spirit to gain ascendency over your body will require that you abandon yourself to God’s word. If someone offended you for example, and in anger, you had decided to lash our on the person; if you remember the word of Jesus in Luke 6:29, you’ll not want to retaliate; that means you’re holding yourself in to serve a greater good.
True, the body has its own distinct desires like sex, food, leisure and comfort – these things are good but they must be brought under control by the spirit. Where this is not done, you will become enslaved by your body and be thrown off balance. When you lack self control, you’ll become vulnerable or susceptible to the attacks of the enemy. (Proverbs 25:28; 16:22). If you lack self control, you can abort God’s plan for your life.

PRAYER: Dear Father, thank you for the awareness receive via your word. I refuse any attitude that in consistent with your expectation for me, in Jesus Name – Amen.

Out of ignorance a lot of people are blaming God for certain occurrences in their lives. But if things must change in the direction of God’s original plans and purposes, then we must keep praying.
